Doctoral students will have access to laboratories equipped with both basic and advanced technologies and instruments, including platforms for cellular and molecular biology (microscopy and spectroscopy techniques, scintillators, PCR thermocyclers, flow cytometers). Additionally, they will be able to utilize advanced analytical instrumentation (HPLC/MS/MS and GC/HRMS, CE-Fluorescence, Atomic Spectroscopy) and various systems for sample preparation. Equipment for environmental matrix sampling and biomonitoring is also available. All laboratories are equipped with facilities (fume hoods, safety cabinets, etc.) to ensure optimal operation of the instruments and the safety of researchers.
Thematic libraries, such as the S. Maria delle Grazie Chemical-Biological Library, hold 20,000 books. All doctoral programme affiliates have free access to the university library system and the online AtoZ journal catalog, as well as the NILDE service for requesting books, book chapters, and journal articles not available within the University of Ferrara or the Ferrara Library Network in either print or electronic format. Furthermore, online subscriptions to major scientific journals in the preclinical, biological, and environmental fields are active.
Doctoral students will have access to the university's chemical-biomedical databases: Biomed Central, Nature, PubMed (including Medline), SciFinder, Scopus, Web of Science. They will be provided with the university's license for Microsoft Office and Matlab. Students will also have access to data and statistical analysis software such as GraphPad Prism, Origin Pro, Mathematica, and graphic design software (Biorender, Photoshop, etc.) provided by the research groups.
The university provides multimedia rooms and dedicated spaces within individual departments. Each research group provides personal computers and workstations for doctoral students' activities.
Applied research and technology transfer facilities (LTTA, T&A Tech), including the Biobank and the structures of the University Museum System, such as the Botanical Garden, are available.
