PhD in Environmental and Health Sciences
The PhD Programme in Environmental and Health Sciences offers a homogeneus curriculum designed to train highly qualified professionals in the fields of public health and environmental protection. The programme is founded on the "One Health" concept, which underscores the inseparable link between human health, environmental quality, and ecosystem integrity. It adopts an inter- and trans-disciplinary methodological approach to study issues related to human health in connection with environmental factors, the qualitative state of the environment that surrounds us, and lifestyle choices. The doctoral activities aim to promote individual talents through research training opportunities across three main macro-areas: Environmental Sciences, the Exposome, and Public Health.
To help doctoral candidates develop scientific independence, the programme includes both attendance at highly specialised teaching courses and engagement in experimental research activities, which are essential for their future career development. Additionally, the programme offers the opportunity for the doctoral candidates to conduct studies and research in collaboration with prestigious international institutes and research centres, both nationally and abroad, allowing them to broaden their knowledge and receive internationally recognised training. Doctoral candidates will be trained to acquire interdisciplinary skills that enable them to understand, apply, and develop innovative solutions for promoting human health and preventing disease, with a focus on environmental protection, biodiversity, ecosystems, and the services they provide.
